The new YMCA Foster Development is a Mixed-Use Project, combining a Full-Service Daycare Facility with 48 new Apartments.
This new development replaces the existing aging YMCA Facility on the same site. The site spans between Foster and Holgate, near the beginning of the Foster Transportation and Streetscape Project, making it a powerful catalyst for future development along Foster. Because of mixed zoning and the daycare being grandfathered in as an appropriate land-use, the project was approved through a Planned Unit Development and Conditional Use Review. It was well received by both the Foster-Powell and the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood associations.
There is a strong synergistic relationship between the apartments and daycare. Families living in these apartments will have the opportunity to walk their children to on-site daycare. The daycare will be open to the neighborhood for children from the ages of newborn to 10 years old.
Because of the unusual shape of the site, the we found an opportunity to design the buildings using inventive architectural forms and roof articulation.
